5 tips for successful communication within the company

Communication is a constant side-effect for us. It doesn’t matter whether we are in a private environment or at work. The need or even the duty to exchange with each other and to pass on information is always present.

Here it is very important to keep in mind that one cannot not communicate. Because communication is not only verbal, but is also often very clear in the facial expressions and gestures of a person. For example, we may pass on an important piece of information, but it is not considered relevant because of a dismissive hand gesture.

We have therefore selected 5 ways for successful communication in the company, which can also be applied in private life.

1.       Listening – In the sense of listening, you can use active listening. Active listening is also just as important for communication in the workplace as speaking. The focus here is on understanding what the other person is saying. We can help the person speaking by repeating what they have said. In this way we can be sure that we have understood correctly.

2.       Identify needs and interests – In addition to the above, it is important to identify the needs and interests of the person you are talking to. This is the key to mutual understanding and improved communication. Once these points have been filtered out, it is easier to have a successful conversation in which both parties can walk away with a win-win situation at best.

3.       Non-verbal communication – We must never forget that non-verbal communication always takes place in a conversation. Up to 90% of communication takes place through non-verbal communication, i.e. through body language. This includes facial expressions, gestures, the gaze and also vocal characteristics. Thus, by not paying attention to these points, we can often pass on false information to our conversation partner.

4.       Accept other views and understand the situation – As already mentioned, the way to reach the goal is to listen. It is also very important to understand and accept other opinions. This is not to say that one has to hold this opinion oneself. In this case, only the viewpoint of the interlocutor should be correctly understood in order to better understand this viewpoint. Of course, this is also important for successful communication. In addition, it is important here to understand the situation in which the interlocutor currently finds himself. This makes it easier to understand the reactions that might arise and, if necessary, react differently.

5.       Make clear statements – misunderstandings can always occur due to unclear statements and communication can fail here. The room for interpretation should therefore be kept as small as possible. This prevents misunderstandings and ensures that the message to be conveyed during communication reaches the recipient clearly and precisely.

Communication is a major subject that should not be overlooked. If the mentioned tips are applied, misunderstandings can be avoided in private as well as in professional contexts.
